We invite current residents of the Morton County community to submit their poetry and photos/images.
Poets can range from those
in 4th Grade up to Adults!
The Morton Mandan Public Library (MMPL) is excited to announce an open call for poems and photos/images for a creative project that celebrates Morton County.
This collection, Rooted in Morton County: Poetry and Images of North Dakota, will have a limited print run which will be accessible to the public.

What SHOULD MY POEM* BE ABOUT?
All poem submissions MUST ALSO INCLUDE a corresponding image. The image should connect with the subject of your poem in some way. Images can be photographs or artwork in any style (as long as it can be uploaded in the correct digital format)!

This spring, MMPL is seeking creative poetry and images connected to Morton County.
This collection of poems and images from the people of Morton County should represent
your personal connection to our County.
Submissions can be inspired by the culture, people, landscapes, seasons, issues, history,
lived experiences, environment, places, and feelings that you associate with Morton County.
We invite poems and photos/images that explore all aspects of place and space and its impact on our identity and relationships.

How does your voice and vision reflect your community?

Poetry and Photo/Image Submission GUIDELINES
FORMATTING GUIDELINES
- Poems should be formatted to fit ONE 8.5x11 inch page in the Portrait orientation
- Use at least 1/2 inch margins
- Use a font that is at least size 14
- Use an easily readable font (Examples: Times New Roman, Helvetica, Arial, Georgia)
- Poems will be submitted via Google Form. Formats accepted include: .PDF; .DOCX; or Google Doc.
- At the top of the page, include the title of your poem and your name as you would like it to be published.
- All poems MUST INCLUDE a corresponding image. The image should connect with the subject of your poem in some way.
(i.e. a poem about snow might include a photo of a winter landscape). The image must be your own work or used
with permission from the photo/artist source. We encourage creativity and originality!
- Image formats accepted include: .PDF; .JPG; .PNG.
- Photos/Images can be submitted either by uploading the file separately via the Google Form field, OR, by formatting it within your poem document. For example, a photo may act as a background for your entire poem, or may be shown next to your poem on the document.

- All submitted poetry and photos/images must be the original property of the submitter.
- MMPL will not be held liable for plagiarism or theft of intellectual or artistic property. By submitting a poem and/or image to the poetry submission form, the submitter assumes all responsibility for the work(s) they submitted. Any liability for the violations of another's intellectual or artistic property will be assumed by the submitter. Any submission materials which are found to be plagiarized or stolen from another source other than the submitter will no longer be considered for publication in the poetry collection.
- If the submitter wishes to use a photo taken by another individual they may do so only if the photograph is used with full written permission of the original photographer.
- Any inappropriate content will disqualify the submission.
- While all submissions will be considered for publication in this collection, priority will be given to the first 60 submissions.
